Visiting the Bertrams
Last month, we finally made a trip to Chicago to visit our friends Matt, Melissa and Charlie. Adam and I were pretty apprehensive about how the kids would do on such a long car ride. Much to our surprise, we made it there without a single tear or even the tiniest tantrum.
The kids had a great time playing together and got along wonderfully. Charlie did an excellent job of sharing his toys with Claire, especially his little glow worm that Claire named "Baby", and hugging his buddy, Lucas. We visited the Kohler Children's Museum, which put our local kids museum to shame. The place was huge with rooms dedicated to playing doctor, car wash, library, mad scientist and so much more. Of course, the place that Claire thought was most interesting was the gift shop. She really enjoyed the play kitchen and was washing dishes until we dragged her out of there. Later, we braved lunch in a restaurant - and not a fast food joint, a real restaurant. The kids surprised us and did really well once again. As soon as the all 3 little ones we asleep for their naps, Melissa and I escaped for a little shopping, a movie, and the chance to finish a sentence before having to attend to the kiddos.

The following day, Adam and Matt played a round of golf, while us girls took the kids to the local library. Who knew the library could be so much fun? The play kitchen was once again a hit with Miss Claire, Charlie loved playing in the house of books, and Luke mostly just sat on the floor and watched them and the little girls that were also there play. We had a difficult time getting them to leave when it was time for lunch and naps. For dinner we visited the Cheesecake Factory. This meal didn't go as smoothly as the last once since we had quite a wait and the kids were a little on the antsy side. Lucas and Charlie really enjoyed sitting next to each other. They kept reaching for each others hand and laughing. It was so cute!
We had such a wonderful weekend, but on Sunday, it was time to say good-bye and head home. We did all agree that we wouldn't take 2 years to make it back for a visit again. And our very own glow worm should arrive tomorrow. Claire has agreed that she will give up her pacifiers in exchange for sleeping with "Baby" every night. I'll have to let you know how that goes.
