Anniversary Getaway

Adam and I took a weekend getaway for our 4th anniversary. We didn't want to go too far from the kids and stumbled across great reviews of the Charity Island Dinner Cruise from East Tawas to Charity Island in Lake Huron. We assumed that it would just be something to do and nothing more and that we would be the youngest people on the cruise by at least 30 years. To our surprise, there were couples of all ages and we really enjoyed the whole experience.

After an hour long boat ride over to the island, we took a little hike through the woods to the light keeper's house. Once everyone was seated our host, one of the two island residents, began talking about the history of the island and how he and his wife came to live there. Before we knew it, an hour had passed, but it seemed like only a few minutes. The stories he had to tell were so interesting. Following a delicious dinner, we had some time to tour the island before boarding the boat. Adam made a friend on the ride back. An elderly man that had many stories from all the traveling he had done and from his war days, talked to him non-stop the whole way.

Earlier in the day we visited a state park and did a little hiking. The views were really pretty and the trees were just starting to turn. The next day we had a chance to play golf together for the first time in a few years and headed home. We were so excited to get back to the kids. It seemed like we were gone for much longer than a couple days.
